Larry Hawkins II: How to Control Your History

larryhawkinsii:

No, the title is not a typo. You can, in fact, control your history. When it comes to personal branding, I’d almost argue that your history is more important than what you’re about to do next. Why? Because there is no “what you’re about to do next” if your history doesn’t tell the right story.

Larry Hawkins II: How to Make Sure You're Always Angry

larryhawkinsii:

A bit of random information about me, my favorite movie of 2012 is The Avengers. While it clearly centered on Iron Man, it was Bruce Banner who stole the show. For those unfamiliar with Marvel characters, Bruce Banner is a man that is able to turn into the Incredible Hulk when he’s angry. Once in…

Larry Hawkins II: How to Prove Your Elders Wrong

larryhawkinsii:

Imagine you walk into a room and everyone in the audience is 15 years your elder. Or, maybe you’re in a business meeting and you’re the youngest tenured employee. Imagine what preconceived notions you’re battling against before you even open your mouth.

“Who does he think he is?”

“She’s too…

Larry Hawkins II: How to Get Your Manager Fired

larryhawkinsii:

We’ve talked at great lengths about the importance of the servant-leadership approach as well the importance to honing in on your purpose. Those are both very vital components to establishing and executing on your personal brand. While leading across your peers is a very vital to setting a strong…

Larry Hawkins II: How to Make Sure You're on the Right Path

larryhawkinsii:

Today at lunch I made a very bold decision. I sat next to the play area at Chik-fil-a to eat lunch and try to get some work done. Crazy, I know. While eating my lunch I watched this father and his two kids interact. The parent-child dynamic is always interesting because the child always tries to…

Larry Hawkins II: How to Find the Answers You Seek

larryhawkinsii:

I was in a consulting meeting on Saturday helping a friend’s husband develop a strategy to pitch a new initiative to help impact his company. To his credit, he came prepared with a list of questions, agendas, and potential outlines he wanted to address with his initiative. I was very impressed…

Larry Hawkins II: How to Ensure that People Never Forget You

larryhawkinsii:

Before we get started, I’d like to apologize to all of you who have been following my blog. I set an expectation of a post every other day and I fell short of that mark yesterday. It’s actually very indicative of how crazy things have been going lately, but it’s a good problem to have.

Last time…

Larry Hawkins II: How to Get What You Want

larryhawkinsii:

Ultimately, every one of us has personal goals that we want to achieve. We all have places we want to go and things we want to experience. This is a universal truth regardless of our environment, background, or aspirations.

The very fact that you’re reading this blog proves that you have a goal…

larryhawkinsii:

I had a consulting lunch today with a new networking contact to discuss challenges his team will be facing and how self-branding can assist. Unintentionally, we had a really productive discussion about my career aspirations and I received some good advice on people I should probably meet.
I finished my food halfway through our discussion so I opened my fortune cookie to eat it but, didn’t immediately read my fortune. It wasn’t until I was walking out the door that I opened up the paper and saw this. Seemed rather fitting as we had literally just finished the topic of the importance of our upbringing and how that shaped our daily approach.
Self-branding fact: A great way to network, uncover new opportunities, and pursue your true passion is by meeting new people and understanding how the brand you’re building can help them; not how they can help you.

Larry Hawkins II: Never Work a Day in Your LIfe

larryhawkinsii:

Have you ever found yourself working on a project and then realized 4 hours passed by without your noticing? That project could have been work related, a personal choice, mentoring someone, giving back to the community, or a multitude of other things. When you find yourself in one of those…
